Welcome to Family Ties Genealogy
Bernard Henry Silver
Charles Henry Batty Senior
We are family history researchers with a joint 50 years experience and our names are: Anne Giblin; and Ursula Osborne. Anne is an Associate of AGRA (Association of Genealogists & Researchers in Archives).
Anne has been researching her family over the last 40 years, beginning her research during her early teens. Anne researches both her own family and helps others on a voluntary basis at the local library. Anne also transcribes records on a regular, voluntary basis.
Ursula has a BSC Hons in the Social Sciences and has been researching both her own family, and the families of others, over the past 10 years. Ursula also volunteers at the local library helping people to research both family and local history.
As we are located in Shropshire, we have easy access to local Shropshire records, which are not online, located at Shropshire Archives, and in our local libraries, for those looking to research parish records and records pre 1837.
We also research any other parts of the country as requested; our specialisms being Lancashire, Dorset, Birmingham and the Black Country, Hallamshire (South Yorkshire) and the West Riding of Yorkshire.
We have a sliding scale of charges that will vary according to the customer’s requirements, and we will perform an initial 1 hour search for free, to ascertain whether sufficient information is available. If we cannot help we will inform you at the earliest opportunity.
If your ancestors are local to us, for a small charge, there is the possibility that we could photograph churches, grave stones/monuments or local landmarks.
We can be employed at an hourly rate of £20, or you could purchase one of our packages as detailed below; if our packages do not suit your requirements, or you have a limited budget, we are happy to tailor our research to your specific needs, at our hourly rate, plus any costs; for example, the cost of birth, marriage or death certificates; or travel costs to nearby archives.
We will require a 50% deposit before undertaking any of our research packages, which is non-refundable.
If we cannot help with your research, we will inform you at the earliest opportunity.
- This package will go back from the designated root person and will go back 3 generations (inclusive of the root person), so includes 2 parents and 4 grandparents (inclusive of any 3 certificates).
- As before the package includes the root person, but will include 4 generations, altogether; so will encompass 2 parents, 4 grandparents and 8 great grandparents (inclusive of any 5 certificates).
- This package is inclusive of the root person and encompasses 5 generations, so will include 2 parents; 4 grandparents; 8 great grandparents and 16 great, great grandparents (inclusive of any 7 certificates).
Once we have completed our research, we will produce a report which includes transcripts of the relevant 1841-1911 Census Returns; a full research report and family tree diagrams showing your ancestors.
As part of our report we will identify family members, where they lived and their occupation, if available, and any other relevant details.
We will include transcripts of parish registers where appropriate, along with transcriptions of any other relevant documents, for example, wills, probate registers, criminal records, apprenticeship records, and electoral rolls.

Historical records, found in archives and private collections, form a rich source of information; however, such documents must be treated with caution as some original records may be missing; others may contain inaccuracies or be difficult to read because of handwriting and fugitive ink; spellings of names and places may be infinitely variable. Recordings may be inaccurate because our ancestors were not entirely truthful, or the recorder misheard/misunderstood.
Whilst we make every effort to verify our research from original documents, the accuracy of what we find cannot be guaranteed where evidence is unreliable or contradictory.
Any inaccuracies found due to errors on our part, timeously identified, will be corrected, and documentation revised at no extra cost. However, any errors or omissions resulting from inaccuracies in information, provided by the client, will be corrected and reprinted for an additional fee.
